World Music Films on Tour

Within the non-profit-initiative World Music Films On Tour, the IMZ offers films for reasonable prices to various festival organisers and cultural institutions for non-commercial and non-theatrical screenings worldwide. The IMZ World Music Films On Tour library – be it documentaries, concert recordings or a mixture of both – shows the diversity, variety and range of music from around the planet. Collecting World Music Films that have been screened at WOMEX – the World Music Expo – since 2002, the library currently consists of 66 excellent World Music Films from Mali to Argentina, Turkey to India, Bulgaria to Palestine, only to name a few.
You are a festival organiser and would like to screen documentaries or concert recordings? Your audience would like to see inspiring films focussing on world music from all-over the world? Explore the world’s musical traditions, diversity as well as the interconnections of music, cultures and customs. For questions and bookings, please contact Astrid Hafner-Auinger at the IMZ office!

THE IMZ AND WORLD MUSIC FILMS

The IMZ International Music + Media Centre, founded under the aegis of UNESCO in 1961 and based in Vienna, is a global association dedicated to the worldwide development, dissemination and promotion of music and dance through the audio-visual media. The professional umbrella organisation and networking platform acts as an interface between leading international producers, distributors, broadcasters of cultural programmes, opera houses, educational institutions and record labels focusing on classical, contemporary and world music, on jazz, and on classical and contemporary dance. The motivation behind the initiative World Music Films On Tour is on the one hand to support world music filmmakers in promoting and distributing their artwork around the planet and on the other hand to make these films available even for small festivals, conferences, and other events having restraint budgets. With the initiative World Music Films On Tour, the IMZ is able to further and follow more intensively its mission to support music and dance in the audio-visual media.

WORLD MUSIC FILMS ON TOUR – LATEST BOOKING

Carn to Cove is Cornwall's performing arts scheme for rural communities. The idea is to fill local locations – as a centre of social life – with music, films, poetry, laughter, drama, stories and dancing. As a part of this scheme, two world music films have been screened at Redruth, Cornwall, UK. Columbian Gold, a musical odyssey through Colombia’s Caribbean Coast, examining the region’s rich musical heritage, on 18 July, and Calypso Rose – The Lioness Of The Jungle, a documentary on Calypso Rose, a living legend, a charismatic character, the uncontested diva of Calypso music, on 19 July.
